Only

What does the word, only, bring to mind for you, reader? I consider this as I begin my five-minute writing exercise today. My timer is set. So, here we go.

The first thing that comes to mind is our tendency as humans to minimize our wrong doings (our sin). Eve only made one little mistake, right? It was just one small bite of the apple.

We tend to minimize our wrong doings to a place where we think it doesn’t exist. Yet, the Bible says that all have fallen short of the glory of God. That created a gap between where God is and where we are. There is only one solution for it.

God sent His only Son to be the only sacrifice that would ever be needed to cover our mistakes (sin).

Once we believe in Jesus Christ (God’s son), we find another word that applies to us in the Bible – chosen. I love this word. It says that God picked us. More than that . . . the original meaning of the word in Greek language can be summed up like this:

God loves each and every one of us as if there is ONLY one of us.

Isn’t that amazing? God loves each of us as if we were an only child.

He saw our flaws (sin) and how we want to minimize it with only. So, He took His only (Son), so that He could love us as if we were His only (child).

The timer has run out. I hope you ponder the meaning and how much God loves you as your read this today!
